2016 was a busy and productive period for IBE as we consolidated ongoing activities and developed new initiatives in our efforts to improve the quality of life of all those affected by epilepsy. As an international organisation for national epilepsy associations, IBE exists to provide support for a strong global network of chapters, encouraging communication and collaboration between chapters and with all stakeholders in order to meet our mission and vision. 2014 was the first full year of the current term of office and was a busy year of activity and achievement. One of the first activities of the year was European Epilepsy Day in February. This was also to be the last European Epilepsy Day as plans to supersede a European day for epilepsy with an interna- tional event were already underway. For the first six months of 2013, with Mike still at the helm, there was a high volume of work being undertaken to progress the work of the Bureau. European Epilepsy Day was celebrated very successfully in the European Parliament in Brussels; an excellent meeting took place in Dublin the elections for the positions on the seven IBE Regional Committees were carried through; the IBE-ILAE European Epilepsy Forum took place in Dublin in March; a new round of the Promising Strategies Programme was arranged; the IBE website was redesigned; the 50% anniversary of the first International Epilepsy News was celebrated; and there was significant effort in finalising IBE’s activities at the 30th International Epilepsy Congress and ensuring a smooth hand-over to the incoming committee. For all of this, I would like to say [...]
